Concurrent Program in Journalism and Law
The concurrent degree in journalism and law is designed to provide the academic and professional training for journalists covering the courts and legal issues, or for lawyers who specialize in media law. Students can earn a Master of Journalism (M.J.) and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) in Law in four years, rather than the five it would take to earn both degrees separately.
In order to be considered for admission into the concurrent degree program for journalism and law, you must apply to both the Journalism School and Boalt Hall School of Law separately. You must pay both application fees, take the required tests for both schools, submit letters of recommendation and official transcripts to both schools, etc.
The Journalism School and Boalt do not exchange applicants' information.
If you are offered admission to both programs, you will meet with the Director of Student & Alumni Affairs at the Journalism School and the Dean of Students at Boalt to determine your course of study.
Contact Boalt in advance to get a complete list of application procedures, entrance requirements and deadlines.
