About Julia Chan

Before coming to the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, Julia Chan had received an Emmy nomination and won the Trustees Scholarship from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The Michigan native moved out west after working several years in local television news. While still in high school, Chan began her journalism career at ABC12 News (WJRT-TV), where she quickly moved up the newsroom ranks to produce the top-rated newscasts in the market. Chan routinely handled breaking news and helped to cover major stories such as severe weather and General Motors’ bankruptcy filing.

In the first half of 2011, Chan worked as a production assistant for PBS "Frontline" at its west coast office. She spent the summer interning at ABC News "Nightline" at the network's Los Angeles bureau.

Chan graduated with high distinction from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She is a UC Berkeley Distinguished Graduate Fellow.
